Quad Rugby: The Demolition Derby of Adaptive Sports

Wheelchair / Quad Rugby was developed in Canada in the 70’s by athletes with quadriplegia, and after being presented as a demonstration sport at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta it made its debut as a medal sport in 2000. Wheelchair Rugby is a mixed-team sport for male and female athletes that combines elements of rugby, basketball and handball. Players compete in manual wheelchairs specifically designed for the sport. And you may hear it referred to by its aptly titled nickname, “Murderball.”
