Join Angel City Sports for the Winter Classic 2026, a new competition-focused experience
within our Track & Field Clinic Series!
Throughout the year, our track & field clinics provide athletes with opportunities to learn,
practice, and develop their skills. The Winter Classic introduces a fun, friendly competitive
environment where athletes can put those skills into action, compete alongside fellow
athletes, and establish personal benchmarks to build upon.
Unlike our traditional practice-focused clinics, the Winter Classic will feature organized
track and field events, including sprints, distance races, and throwing competitions.
Athletes of all ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome, whether they’re
experienced competitors or trying an event for the first time.
This recreational, non-sanctioned competition is designed to celebrate participation,
encourage personal growth, and introduce an exciting new element to our track & field
programming. Come challenge yourself, connect with fellow athletes, and enjoy the spirit
of competition!
Registration: Required for athletes, volunteers, and spectators
Ages: Open to all ages and abilities
FAQ:
How is the Winter Classic different from a regular track & field clinic?
Our regular clinics focus on learning and practicing skills through instruction and coaching. The Winter Classic shifts the focus toward competition, giving athletes an opportunity to participate in organized events, compete against other athletes, and put their skills into action. Coaches will be available for assistance, but most of the event will focus on competition rather than instruction.
Who can participate?
Athletes of all ages, abilities, and experience levels are welcome! No previous track & field or competition experience is required.
What events will be offered, and can I participate in multiple events?
The Winter Classic will feature the following events:
Track Events
- 100m dash
- 200m dash
- 400m dash
- 800m race
Field Events
- Shot put
- Discus
- Javelin
Athletes can register for multiple events based on their interests and preferences. All events are open to athletes of all ability levels.
How will athletes be grouped for competition?
ACS Track & Field coaches will organize athletes into three general categories: Ambulatory, Wheelchair, and Blind/Visually Impaired. Athletes are welcome to request a different category based on their preferences. Additional groupings by age may be introduced depending on registration numbers.
Is this an officially sanctioned competition? Will there be awards?
No. The Winter Classic is a recreational, non-sanctioned competition, and official para-athletics classifications will not be used. Athletes’ times and throwing distances will be recorded as personal benchmarks, but will not count toward official competition results or qualifying standards.
There will be no medals or awards for placing in events. Instead, athletes will be recognized for their participation and accomplishments.
What should I expect on event day?
Athletes will check in upon arrival and have an opportunity to warm up before competition begins. After check-in, athletes will receive a heat sheet outlining their scheduled events. Most of the day will be dedicated to competition, with ACS coaches and volunteers available for assistance. Athletes are also welcome to bring their own coaches or support persons.
Do I need to bring my own equipment?
Athletes are welcome to bring their own athletic or adaptive equipment, but ACS will also have equipment available for use. We recommend wearing comfortable athletic clothing suitable for running or throwing events.
Is registration required, and can spectators attend?
Yes! The Winter Classic is free to attend, but advance registration is required for all athletes, volunteers, and spectators. Athletes will select their preferred events during registration. Family members, friends, and spectators are welcome and can register through the volunteer registration portal.
